Two releases we work on in this section are:
– Overhand Shot Release: your typical shot where the ball rolls off of the fingers towards the basket.
– Open Palm Shot Release: your hand will stop short of a follow through to allow the ball to come out of your hand quicker.
For this drill you are going to MAKE (5) on each release on each side in an alternating pattern.
Two Foot Floaters (8) makes alternating
– Start at the elbow
– Rip across your frame
– Skip off your first dribble step into a hop and land outside inside
– Square shoulders and shoot floater with an open palm
**Key – you can also use this to pass out after getting a paint touch**
We will focus on three different finishes in this sections:
1. Floaters – getting the ball out quickly with an open palm.
2. Runners – one legged shot.
3. Leaners – allows you to bump or nudge the defender before getting into your shot.
– Start at the elbow area with a thru, cross, thru dribble
– Floater first, thru-cross-thru one dribble and jump off the inside foot.
– Runner second, thru-cross-thru one dribble and jump off the outside foot.
– Leaner last, thru-cross-thru one dribble two steps jump off the inside foot.
6 Makes each side.
Goal Make (3) of each finish on each side of the basket three times alternating
– Start around the elbow area
– Drive into the paint towards the midline
– First rep is a controlled fade, plant your inside foot and then your outside foot and lean back into a controlled fade
– Second rep is a transition fade, take a bounce and hop into your inside foot to outside foot and lean back into your fade
– Third rep is a step out, take a bounce and step off your inside foot to your outside foot and lean back into your fade
Make (5) on each side
– Start at the elbow
– Get into a drop or thru the legs
– On your first step (Right Side: left hand/right foot) or (Left Side: right hand/left foot) spin on your first step
– Then (Right Side: step left/right on your spin) or (Left side: step right/left) into your controlled fade
